In the previous article, we mentioned the tool shank. In fact, the tool shank is also a collet. It is a locking device used to fix the tool or CNC machining metal parts. Specific functions such as: preventing tool deformation and offset and clamping the tool, then what are the types of tool shanks commonly used for CNC machining of metal parts? If you are interested in CNC machining knowledge, then you must read this article about tool shank models.
In CNC machining of metal parts, it can usually be divided into three commonly used tool shank systems, namely tool shanks, pull studs and chucks (or intermediate modules).
Common tool shank types and application scenarios for CNC machining of metal parts
The commonly used tool shank types for CNC machining of metal parts can be divided into:
1. Flattening tool handle:
A tool shank without a chuck or intermediate module, the common model is JT-40-xp20-70. It is suitable for straight shank end mills, ball end mills, flat-cut shallow hole drills and other tools.
2. Spring chuck handle:
Equipped with ER collet chuck, common models are BT30-ER20-60, suitable for straight shank end mills, ball end mills, center drills and other tools.
3. Powerful chuck handle:
Equipped with KM collet chuck, common models are BT40-C22-95, suitable for straight shank end mills, ball end mills, center drills, etc.
4. Face milling cutter shank:
A tool shank without a chuck or intermediate module, the common model is BT40-XM32-75, which is used for various CNC machining of metal parts face milling cutters.
5. Shank of three-side and face milling cutter:
A tool shank without a chuck or intermediate module. The common model is BT40-XS32-90, which is used for face milling cutters.
6. Side-fixed handle:
Equipped with rough and fine boring and tap chucks, etc. Common models are 21A. T40.32-58, which are used for taps and rough and fine boring tools.
7. Morse taper handle:
Equipped with Morse reducer / Morse reducer, common models ST40-M1-45 (with flat tail), ST40-MW2-50 (without flat tail), ST40-M1-45 is suitable for taper shank drill bits and hinges Tool, ST40-MW2-50 is suitable for taper shank end mills and taper shank end mills with internal thread, etc.
8. Drill chuck handle:
Equipped with drill chucks, the common models are ST50-Z16-45, which are used for straight shank drills and reamers.
9. Tap chuck handle:
A tool shank without a chuck or intermediate module. The common model is ST50-TPG875, which is suitable for machine taps.
10. Integral knife handle:
Tool shank equipped with coarse and fine boring heads, the common model is BT40-BCA30-160, which is suitable for integral coarse and fine boring tools.
CNC machining metal parts pull studs
The standard for rivets for CNC machining of metal parts has also been standardized. ISO or GB standardizes two types of rivets, type A and type B. Among them, type A studs are used for tensioning devices without steel balls, and type B studs. Nails are used for tensioning devices with steel balls. The actual specifications of collets and pull studs can be found in the requirements of relevant standards.
Spring chuck and intermediate module
There are two types of spring chucks for CNC machining of metal parts, namely ER spring chucks and KM spring chucks. Among them, the clamping force of ER collet chuck is small, which is suitable for occasions with small cutting force; the clamping force of KM collet chuck is larger, which is suitable for powerful milling. The intermediate module is the intermediate connection device between the tool shank and the tool. Through the use of the intermediate module, the general performance of the tool shank is improved. For example, the connection of boring tools, taps and tool shanks often uses intermediate modules.
Summarize
The selection of cutting tools for CNC machining of metal parts is carried out under technical conditions based on the human-computer interaction technology programmed by CNC lathes. Should be based on CNC machining of metal parts production and processing professional capabilities, the characteristics of the raw materials of commercial products, production and processing production process, tool durability and other related factors, the appropriate use of tools and collets.
